Coronavirus: A suspected
epidemic in a retirement home. Spread of new virus in Liguria
Genoa - Retirement homes under
observation in Liguria. After the case of the Bogliasco facility, where a
91-year-old woman passed away after testing positive for the coronavirus in
recent days and all the guests were quarantined, new cases occurred in an
elderly residence, this time in the Ligurian capital. Two patients - out of a
total of 136 - from the San Camillo protected residence, on the heights of
Genoa, were taken to the Galliera hospital for fever and respiratory problems
and then tested positive for the coronavirus swab.
Since Monday, we have asked the other
people for checks several times with possible coronavirus symptoms, but they
have not yet arrived - explains the health director of the facility, Arianna
Bonfanti - To date, there are thirty patients and about ten staff: we have
blocked visits from relatives and tried to isolate guests at risk.
"In the RSA with suspicious cases,
verification groups are sent: given many requests, we have strengthened the
procedures to respond to these situations - says Valter Locatelli, Commissioner
of Alisa - While waiting, we ask the facility to isolate patients with
respiratory symptoms. Let's not be alarmed: it is right to hospitalize only
those with critical coronavirus symptoms, carpet pads are not needed. Let's not
forget that we are going towards the peak of the emergency.
Positive cases and deaths increase
In the meantime, coronavirus positive
cases are growing in Liguria and deaths are increasing. According to the latest
data provided yesterday by the Liguria Region, the positive cases in the region
are 434 in total (108 more than the previous day). The deaths, on the other
hand, rose to a total of 29, including the two positive swabs carried out on as
many corpses. Among the infected, most people are hospitalized, while a minority
are at home. There are 1,504 people in active surveillance.
"We suspect the plague to double again,
during the middle of next week we should be certain if what we will be doing jointly
is lowering the contagion curve," said the Ligurian governor Giovanni Toti
renewing the invitation to stay at home.
"We will not ever hide things from
you - he concluded - The Ligurian health structure is superb, we will do it.
Those who fall ill will be treated in the best possible way.
"From hospitals - he stated - people inform me of the queues
of secured tents. I repeat: if you don't have a high fever and serious
breathing problems, stay home. Coronavirus - Only if the symptoms are severe,
fever over 38 and a half and respiratory problems, call 112 or 118. Do not go
to the emergency room for any reason related to alleged coronavirus symptoms:
harm yourself and others.
Protective devices are missing
The Ligurian governor has raised the
alarm regarding personal protective equipment: We are in difficulty giving them
to doctors and nurses, those employed in the most exposed coronavirus wards. We
hope - he said - that within this weekend the masks that we have purchased and
for which we are in talks will arrive and we hope to arrive at a daily supply
that will allow us to widen the audience of people to whom they are distributed
».
In Recco, yesterday, the Guardia di
Finanza made a blitz in a shop run by Chinese traders: abusive masks sold for
ten Euros each were conviscated.
Toti, yesterday, has also written to the
Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, to ask him to be of interest to the Italian
Embassy in Cuba on the case of the pair of Genoese quarantined in Cuba are
negative of Coronavirus despite the Covid 19 fears.
Bucci wrote to mayors of Liguria
The Mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci, in his
role as president of Anci (National Association of Italian Municipalities)
Liguria, yesterday invited the other mayors of the region to make "all
useful effort" to stay away from gatherings and even just groups of people
on coasts, beaches, gardens, parks, and lawns to cut the chances of coronavirus
spreading.
Bucci called on the local police to be
used first to check and possibly disperse people in order to stop the coronavirus
outbreak, but he also did not rule out direct interventions by local
administrators.
